Hot rolling, aimed at producing rings, is a technology that allows you to create a rough product with excellent mechanical characteristics and limited allowances. The ring is gradually enlarged to the desired size without interrupting the fibers of the material. Rolling mills are used when seamless forged rings are made at manufacturing plants. Because the mills are designed in different sizes, the outside diameter of every ring will vary. The smallest rings usually weigh around 300 pounds, and the largest rings often weigh more than 300,000 pounds.
On the other hand, open die processing procedures are implemented so that workers can create seamless rolled rings. The unique rolling methods give each ring better concentricity and smoothness. All forged rings can withstand tight tolerances and meet typical industry requirements.
To complete the production cycle, any heat treatments are applied for annealing, normalization, reclamation and solubilization, any mechanical finishing processes according to the details can be done.
We can supply rectangular/shaped section hot-rolled rings in all types of steel plus light alloys, super alloys and non-ferrous materials. The rings can be supplied in natural raw, rough treated and sanded, roughened, or finished to design.
Steel rings are commonly made from formable grades of steel like A36, A572-50 and even A516-70 in the form of steel bars or flats and rounds or square steel sections. The welding of these rings is detailed with a joint design and a welding procedure. Stick and MIG are the most common types of welding procedures performed to complete a joint on this type of product. In scenarios where these products will be used in corrosive or high temperature environments, rolled and welded rings may be made from other metal alloys such as 5000 & 6000 series aluminum, 300 & 400 level stainless steel and specialty alloys such as super-austenitic stainless steel like Duplex 2205 or nickel based alloys such as Inconel 625, C276 or AL6XN.
Rolled rings are used with the following applications: bushings, gears, fifth wheels, satellites, flanges, seats, conical crowns, spheres and various parts based on customer designs that will be used in all industrial sectors: aerospace, food, automotive, tractor, naval, railway, energy, oil & gas and general mechanics.
The production involves all grades of steel: carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, duplex, super duplex, nickel and titanium alloys.
Many manufacturers can make seamless rings in numerous configurations. Most businesses request flat rings, cylindrical rings, and rings that look like washers. The height of each ring also varies. However, the height-to-thickness ratios often range from 1:16 to about 16:1. If a client needs several rings that have bigger proportions, special processing will be required. Usually, rectangular rings are the most common rings because they have a simple design.
We are Steel Available, an online supplier relationship management and sourcing platform connecting suppliers and buyers from the heavy industry. We are developing the first ecosystem in the heavy industry, which allows clients to efficiently manage and automate their supply chains using web-based tools and services. Our goal is to reduce the hidden risk in value chains by providing the information that matters, from compliance to quality assurance, creating value for all stakeholders.
